On 19 June 2026, we held a working meeting at the Council of Ministers, during which we presented the Concept, the preliminary programme, the organisational plan, the number of registered delegates, guests and candidates, and the agenda of the XV World Roma Congress – Sofia 2026.

During the meeting, interest was expressed in the initiative, and the possibilities for future institutional cooperation and support for the organisation of the Congress were also discussed.

The participants undertook to present the outcomes of the meeting to the Prime Minister, after which we will be officially informed of their position.

We thank them for the constructive dialogue and look forward with interest to the next steps.

Sofia Launches the National Organization for the XV World Roma Congress – Sofia 2026

On May 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM, in the press club of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), “Ogi e Romengo” held a two-stage event marking the beginning of the national organization and coordination process for the preparation of the XV World Roma Congress.

During the first stage, a working meeting was held at the organization’s office with representatives from across the country and members of the leadership team. Measures were outlined for the establishment of regional structures and coordinated activities related to the organizational process.

The second stage included a press conference attended by members of the organizational team, which currently includes public figures, community leaders, and Roma activists from 9 regions of the country. Additional activists who were unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances, as well as others who will join during the campaign, are expected to become part of the initiative.

During the press conference, the main priorities and upcoming steps were presented. The event marks the beginning of a coordinated process of international significance and highlights the important role of Bulgaria in the preparation of the Congress.

At present, more than 100 delegates from over 40 countries have officially expressed their intention to participate in the Congress, which will take place in October this year.

The series of meetings of “OGI E ROMENGO” in connection with the World Roma Congress continues. Today, we held a working meeting at the headquarters of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva.

On 05.04.2026, we held a meeting at Sofia Municipality with the Chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council, Tsvetomir Petrov, regarding the issuance of permits for the celebrations, marches, and manifestations that will take place on the streets of Sofia on 29, 30, and 31 October 2026.

The World Congress of Roma from around the world will begin from the Fakulteta district!

The organization “OGI E ROMENGO” and the Organizing Committee of the XV World Roma Congress – Sofia ’26 express their gratitude to the organizers of the event dedicated to International Roma Day – 8 April. We thank the Chairwoman of the National Council for Cooperation on Ethnic and Integration Issues under the Council of Ministers, Ms. Maria Nedina, Secretary Ms. Emilia Alexandrova, and Deputy Chair Mr. Asen Kolev for their initiative and respect toward the Roma community and the residents of the Fakulteta district.

The event was also attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, which highlighted its significance and international impact.

We thank all organizers, guests, and participants for their support and solidarity on the occasion of International Roma Day.

On 03.05.2026, the organization “OGI E ROMENGO” held an international Zoom meeting with the organizational team in London and delegates involved in the preparation of the XV World Roma Congress – Sofia ’26.

“OGI E ROMENGO” continues its active work on the international organization and coordination of the event together with representatives and partners from Europe and around the world.

A meeting was held at the office of “OGI E ROMENGO” with the legend of Bulgarian boxing and world champion Serafim Todorov.

During the meeting, topics related to the role of sports among young people, the motivation of younger generations, and the importance of personal example in society were discussed. The conversation took place in a friendly atmosphere and focused on future initiatives related to youth, sports, and social development.

XV WORLD ROMA CONGRESS

The organization and holding of the World Roma Congress, which will take place in Sofia from October 29 to 31, has been entrusted to "OGI E ROMENGO", with general organizer Toma Nikolaev Mladenov. This decision has been endorsed by Sir Grattan Puxon – the chief secretary and founder of the first World Roma Congress (1971), as well as by the Global Roma Diaspora, uniting over 400 Roma organizations from around the world.

The Congress will be held in partnership with the Global Platform ROMANET, which in the autumn of 2026 will organize the first democratic elections within the framework of the Congress.

The website of Roma Mandate highlights its mission to promote the democratic transformation of the Roma nation. Within the framework of the Congress, a primary focus will be placed on the global situation of the Roma community, as well as on developing effective strategies to strengthen its representation at the international level.

OGI E ROMENGO is seeking assistance and support for the organization of the Congress from Bulgarian, European and international governmental and non-governmental organizations, with negotiations already underway, working meetings being held, and agreements for cooperation being prepared, including with diplomatic missions in the Republic of Bulgaria.

We call on all international institutions for support in this significant moment, which will place Bulgaria on the world map of the Roma community.

The campaign for registration of organizations, delegates, candidates, and guests has already started. The deadline for interested organizations to register or apply for participation is until August 31, 2026.
